Mint List Curation

When project founders begin curating whitelists for mints and/or airdrops they typically rely upon two methodologies:

  • 𝕏 Raids:

    • Like/Follow/Retweet and comment your wallet address

  • Discord Collabs:

    • Collaborate with existing communities for giveaways.

Both of these methods have inherent problems. There are lots of builders contributing their time and efforts towards building out solutions to make whitelisting more robust, and we are right there with them. Read on to learn the crux of the problem, and see our solution below.

Inefficiencies of 𝕏 Raids:

One of the knock-on effect of 𝕏's Filtration issues mentioned before, is corrupted whitelisting. Bots are able to secure a majority of spots/drops, leaving real users with less opportunity. This damage is most felt just after a mint or airdrop concludes, as these bots all dump their allocations immediately. This usually tanks the opening market cap of promising projects, creating bad optics for founders, and leaving holders underwater from the start. Holders and Founders both deserve better.

Inefficiencies of Discord Collabs:

Within the scope of Discord collabs, bots can be less of an issue, but there are still inefficiencies. For starters, users have to keep notifications on for all the servers they're in so they don't miss collab announcements. Then to enter these randomized giveaways, you still need to like/follow/retweet the new project on 𝕏, plus join another new server.

Having 30+ servers sending a daily barrage of @everyone notifications can be overwhelming, especially if your true passion may lie with only 5-10 of those communities. Furthermore, the random nature of these collabs makes it hit or miss as far as the type of collector actually awarded the spot.

How Badger+ fixes this.

Not unlike Discord, our users can connect a wallet to verify that they are in fact dedicated holders of multiple established collections. But Badger+ users are also able to share a separate address on their public profile, so as they rank up in reputation and build their notoriety, project founders get to be more selective about the type of collectors they give spots to.

Your Social Address can be any compatible bitcoin address, ideally a hot wallet - or a wallet that does not hold your valuable assets, since it is publicly visible and meant for connecting to various mint platforms and web apps. We recommend Xversearrow-up-right or MagicEdenarrow-up-right as wallet providers, but you can paste and save any taproot address here.

Why is this better?

Privacy & Security. Mindful holders like to keep their most valuable assets locked in 'cold storage', which is a wallet that is rarely connected to websites or apps, and is primarily used as a vault.

The challenge has been that these vaulted assets are usually the qualifier for whitelist allocations, but in order to actually mint those new projects, a holder would have to connect their approved (vault) wallet to a mint site, thereby turning once cold storage into a hot wallet. Serious collectors don't want these new risk vectors on their vault, and often skip/miss mints as a result.

Your Badger+ profile demonstrates to project founders that you are an active market participant, which means they can simply copy+paste your social address into their mint lists if they like your takes. This allows you to safely mint with your social address without exposing your vault address to mint sites.

You can update or delete this profile address at any time, giving you control over how and where you mint, while keeping your vault private.

The Caveat

For transparency's sake, we want to be clear that your wallets with assets in them do still require a one time signature verification on Badger+. This is no different than using Matrica for Discord roles, and is made possible using the open-source SatsConnect & LaserEyes tools to capture off-chain signatures.

There are no on-chain transactions broadcasted to the network, just signature proofs that validate ownership. Private keys cannot be exposed, and all open-source documentation is available for review— see our Integrations page for more.

Alternatives

We're working towards an implementation of signature-less verification which will not require wallet connections, providing an alternative method for collectors who would prefer to keep their cold storage completely frozen. This will be a future release and we'll announce when the feature is close to going live, but for now traditional wallet-connect is necessary for on-chain ownership validation.
