Merit Based Leaderboards

🏆 Reputational Meritocracy

When we designed Badger+, we wanted to ensure we had a place to showcase all users. We call that the Badger Den— you can find that on the Explorearrow-up-right page.

There are lots of ways to display all users, but since the purpose of Badger+ is to help you dig through the trenches to find insightful content, what makes the most sense is ranking users based on earned reputation points.

Leaderboards are nothing new in the crypto space. But many of them make themselves vulnerable to farming schemes which dilutes authenticity. In a space where financial motivation dominates, we believe a meritocracy is a superior form of ranking as opposed to farmable systems.

🧮 Here's how our point system works:

Reputation = (Upvotes × 1) + (Badges × 50) + (Medals × variable) + (Boosts x 10)

  • Upvotes: Number of upvotes on your posts/comments.

  • Badges: Number of Community Badges unlocked.

  • Medals: Number of Achievement Medals unlocked.

    • Medals are variable ranging from 10-100 points. View the Medals page for types and point allocations

  • Boosts: Number of Community Boosts completed.

Example: 30 upvotes + 5 badges + 1 Cub Medal + 1 Collector Medal + 1 Booster Medal + 1 Boost:

Reputation = (30 × 1) + (5 × 50) + (15 + 25 +50) + (10) = 380 points

👍 Points for Upvotes

There's no cap on points derived from Upvotes on posts and comments. The more your peers find your takes valuable and Upvote them, the more points you'll earn.

This peer-recognition structure helps mitigate against farming, maintaining a certain level of purity in ranking levels. If a user is high up in the leaderboard, it simply means they hold some assets and many users find their posts informative.

🏅Points for Achievement Medals

Each Achievement Medal has its own point value. In our example, these three medals are 10, 25, and 50 points each - see the Medals page to view all medal values.

At launch, there's a fixed number of Medals which means the most points a user can earn in this category is 400 pts, assuming all 12 Medals are unlocked. But expect more medals to come!

⛨ Points for Badges

Each badge you hold represents hard earned sats that you spent on art or memes you enjoy, but market-caps vary wildly and everyone has a different entry price. So we've standardized all badges with the same value at 50 points each to ensure collectors who have skin in the game move up in leaderboard rankings at an equal pace, without bias to certain collections/projects.

During our alpha phase, we're kicking off with support for 30 of the leading projects in the space, but that puts a ceiling on how many points can be earned from badges. With each badge being 50 points each, 1500 points is the maximum allocation during our early phase, but this will increase as new communities are added as time goes on.
